About the Pharmacy Department

Nestling snugly atop the tarai region of the Uttarakhand, Nainital and the satellite towns has been a centre of Knowledge seekers from time immemorial. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is presently situated in Bhimtal a town (Nagar Panchayat) in Nainital district in the state of Uttarakhand, situated at an altitude of 1370 meters above sea level which has now become mini district headquarters. The Department has recently been reincarnated as the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences with the commencement of PG and doctorate programmes under the Faculty of Technology. Department of Pharmacy was initially started in year 1997, catering to the needs of one of the remotest and difficult hilly terrains, with temporary setup at Chemistry PG Block at Nainital and subsequently shifted over to Bhimtal In October, 2004.

Vision: To produce professionals imparting authentic information and advice on medicine and management of disease, we envisage opening avenues for intelligent youth of the nascent Uttarakhand state by establishing a “centre of excellence” providing quality education with strong ethical values.

Mission: To optimize health of all members of society through the promotion of quality education in the field of disease management through pharmaceutical care.

Eligibility criteria:-

10+2 from Uttarakhand Board or any recognized board in India.

Eligibility criteria:-

B. Pharm from Kumaun University or any other University in India.

Eligibility criteria:-

Postgraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Kumaun University or any other University in India.

 Admission procedure:-

A joint entrance examination is conducted by the Uttarakhand Technical University and the students are admitted through counseling as per their order of merit in the entrance exam.

Admission procedure:-

The students are admitted through the counseling as per their order of merit in the qualifying exam (B. Pharm) or as decided by Kumaun University from time to time.

Admission procedure:-

Scholars for the doctorate programme in Pharmacy would be admitted as per provisions of the university through an entrance examinations conducted by the Directorate of Research & Extension.


AICTE – The B. Pharm and M. Pharm courses are approved by All India Council for Technical Education. (Letter no. F. No. Northern /1-478530672/2013/EOA, Dated 19/03/2013)

PCI – The department is approved by PCI U/S- 12 for conducting B. Pharm course up to session 2013-14 (Letter no. 32-328/2010-PCI/31262-63 Dated 18-Oct-2011)

Training and Placement

 Department has its own training and placement cell to guide the students with career related queries and provide a platform for the companies to tap the well groomed intellect of the department.

 Eminent personalities in the field of pharmacy associated with academic institutions across the country visit the department consistently to enlighten the students with their views sharing their experiences.

 The department is also visited by people from the industry to give an insight into the intricacies of the drug business world.

 The department also boasts of a strong alumni network named KUDOPSAA working in tandem for the upliftment of the people associated with the alma mater.

 Personality development activites have been conducted with experts from Hero Mind Mine, Master Talent Eduservices, Genesis Biotech, Anucasna etc have interacted with the students.

 Industry Student interface is encouraged with regular talks of people from the industry including SUN Pharma, Ranbaxy, Venus Remedies, Glenmark, IDPL etc.

Major highlights and Achievements of the Department

i. The first education institute in the entire state to start Post Graduate teaching in Pharmacy in four Disciplines (Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharm. Chemistry, Pharmacognosy)

ii. The First education institute in the entire state to start Ph. D. Program in Pharmacy to open avenues for research activities

iii. The Department has been declared Centre for Continuing Education Program by State Pharmacy Council, Govt. of Uttarakhand, Dehradun

iv. All the students are well placed in MNCs or leading organizations.

v. Majority of students completed or are pursuing higher education from reputed institutes of the country.

He did his B.Sc from Gaya College, Gaya under Magadh University Bodh Gaya in 1973. He then pursued B. Pharm and M. Pharm from I.T BHU in 1978 and 1980. He was awarded the UGC JRF scholarship for 24 months while pursuing M. Pharm course. He underwent training in M/s East India Pharmaceuticals Ltd.  Calcutta and M/s  Swastik Pharmaceuticals,  Varanasi.
This inspired him to do the job in a pharmaceutical company while destiny brought him to teaching. He simultaneously joined Bihar College of Pharmacy, Patna as a Lecturer in 15/09/1980.  He was devoted both to the teaching as well as the industry during the period spanning over 10 years. Thereafter he dedicated his complete time to the profession of teaching, wherein he went to Pilani, Rajasthan and Rhotak. He joined Kumaun University Nainital on 16/10/2000 as Reader. He took over the reins of the department in 2003. Thereafter the growth and success of the department has been synonymous with the hard work, dedication and efforts put in by him.
